Ingredients

1 cup pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

½ cup pizza sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup pepperoni slices (or substitute with cooked vegetables, sausage, or other fillings of your choice)

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tbsp olive oil

Cooking spray

Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Dough: If you are using store-bought pizza dough, allow it to sit at room temperature for approximately 20 minutes to soften. If you are making homemade dough, roll it out on a generously floured surface to a thickness of about ¼ inch.

Cut Out Circles: Utilize a round cutter or a small bowl (approximately 4-5 inches in diameter) to cut out circles from the rolled-out dough. Depending on the thickness and size, you should yield 4-6 circles.

Assemble the Calzones: Take each dough circle and place it on a work surface. Spread roughly one tablespoon of pizza sauce on one half of each circle. Then, generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese, add a few slices of pepperoni, and season with a pinch of dried oregano and garlic powder.

Seal the Calzones: Carefully fold the un-sauced half of the dough over the filled half to form a half-moon shape. Firmly pinch the edges to seal the calzones. To reinforce the seal and add a decorative touch, use the tines of a fork to crimp the edges.

Prepare for Air Frying: Lightly brush or spray the exterior of each calzone with olive oil to achieve a lovely golden crispness during cooking.

Cooking Time: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the calzones in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring there is space between them for proper air circulation.

Air Fry the Calzones: Cook the calzones for 8-10 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown. If needed, cook in batches to prevent overcrowding, allowing for even cooking.

Serve: Carefully remove the calzones from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of color and flavor. Serve with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy your delicious mini calzones!
