Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu

2 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce

1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Prep the Tofu: Start by pressing the tofu to eliminate excess moisture, which is crucial for achieving crispiness. Wrap the block of tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object, like a cast-iron skillet, on top. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes. After pressing, cut the tofu into uniform 1-inch cubes to ensure even cooking.

Make the Sauce: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, Sriracha sauce, maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk these ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.

Coat the Tofu: In a large mixing bowl, add the cornstarch. Carefully incorporate the cubed tofu into the cornstarch, gently tossing to ensure all sides are evenly coated. The cornstarch will help create a crispy exterior.

Marinate the Tofu: Pour the prepared sauce over the cornstarch-coated tofu. Gently toss the tofu again until it is thoroughly coated in the sauce. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes—if time permits, marinate for up to 30 minutes to enhance the flavor.

Preheat the Oven: While the tofu is marinating, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for roasting.

Roast the Tofu: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for ease of cleanup. Arrange the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer on the sheet, ensuring they are not crowded. Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the tofu, which is vital for achieving a golden, crispy finish.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the tofu for 25-30 minutes. Remember to flip the tofu halfway through the cooking time to promote even browning.

Garnish and Serve: Once the tofu is beautifully golden and crispy, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with finely chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation. Serve warm as an exciting side dish, or layer it in grain bowls or wraps for a delightful meal!
