1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced into bite-sized pieces

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 pre-made pizza doughs (store-bought or homemade)

Olive oil spray

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Chicken: In a medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced chicken and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Sauté for about 7-10 minutes, continuously stirring, until the chicken is fully cooked and golden brown. Once cooked, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

    Set Up Breading Stations: In three separate shallow bowls, place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl, the beaten eggs in the second bowl, and a mixture of Italian-style breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese in the third bowl.

      Bread the Chicken: Take each piece of sautéed chicken, dredge it in the flour, shaking off any excess flour. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure each piece of chicken is well-coated. Repeat until all chicken pieces are breaded.

        Air Fry the Chicken: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the breaded chicken pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket (you may need to cook in batches). Lightly spray the top with olive oil. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through, until the chicken is crispy and golden.

          Prepare the Calzones: On a floured surface, roll out each pizza dough into a circle approximately 10 inches in diameter. Spoon 1/2 cup of marinara sauce onto one half of the dough, spreading it evenly. Layer the crispy chicken on top of the sauce, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.

            Fold and Seal: Carefully fold the unfilled half of the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly to seal, then use a fork to crimp the edges for an extra secure seal.

              Air Fry the Calzones: Lightly spray the outside of each calzone with olive oil. Place them in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

                Serve: Carefully remove the calzones from the air fryer and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Slice each calzone in half and serve with warm marinara sauce on the side for dipping. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of color and flavor.
