Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk (approximately 110°F/43°C)

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)

1 large egg

1 tsp salt

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped

1 teaspoon dried oregano

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, mix together the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit undisturbed for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy on top, indicating the yeast is active.

Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt until evenly combined. Create a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the melted butter, the egg, and the frothy yeast mixture. Stir together until a soft dough begins to form.

Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, using your palms and fingertips to stretch and fold the dough, until it is smooth and elastic to the touch.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Place the bowl in a warm area and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Herb Butter: While the dough is rising, melt ¼ cup of the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped rosemary, dried oregano, and black pepper. Stir well to combine, and then remove from heat, allowing the flavors to meld.

Shape Rolls: Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball.

Second Rise: Arrange the shaped rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring some space between each roll for rising. Cover the dish with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot when you are ready to bake.

Brush with Herb Butter: After the second rise, gently brush the tops of the rolls with the warm garlic herb butter mixture, ensuring the rolls are well-coated.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown on top and fragrant.

Final Touch: Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with any remaining garlic herb butter. Allow the rolls to cool slightly in the pan before serving to let the flavors settle in.
