Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

6-7 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (a blend of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp is recommended for a perfect balance of tart and sweet)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Brown Sugar Oat Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking.

    Prepare the Apple Filling:

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, fresh lemon juice, pure vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of flour. Use a gentle tossing motion to coat the apples evenly with the mixture.

        - Once well-coated, carefully transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly for even cooking.

Make the Brown Sugar Oat Topping:

            - In a separate bowl, combine old-fashioned rolled oats, packed brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir them together until mixed thoroughly.

              - Pour the melted unsalted butter over the oat mixture. Using a fork or your fingertips, blend the ingredients until you achieve a crumbly texture, resembling coarse crumbs.

                Assemble the Crisp:

                  - Take the brown sugar oat topping and sprinkle it evenly over the prepared apple filling in the baking dish. Ensure it covers the apples well for an inviting crunch.

Bake: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. Keep an eye on it, and once the apples are bubbly and the topping has turned a beautiful golden brown, it’s ready.

Cool and Serve: After baking, remove the crisp from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes. This cooling period helps the juices to set, enhancing the texture. Serve warm, with a delightful option of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent treat!
